Every student has a Writing Binder.
In this binder they will keep all the tips and examples provided.
They will also print out and keep their personal writing.
This binder might need to go home and back to school throughout the year.
Students will need to know how to start a new Google doc.
They will also need to know how to correctly name it and share it.
Stories will be written on a Google doc. This makes it much easier to edit it. It also makes the writing easily accessible from home or at school.
Any kind of writing involves planning, writing, editing, and revising.
So, for each genre of writing, we will take it step by step. I will provide support and modeling each step of the way.
Multiple grades will be given for the different parts of the writing and the stages we are in as we write.
We are now beginning our new genre of writing: opinion essays.
We are choosing a person we admire to write about.
This person may be someone you know.
This person may be someone famous that you admire.
This could be someone who is alive today or a person from history.
(FYI: If you choose a famous person,
it will involve also needing to do some research.)
This week we will be planning our essay. We will use a graphic organizer that I call
"Boxes and Bullets."
A pdf of this is posted below.
I will be modeling how to plan, organize, and write an opinion essay.
I will be posting my models as we go through the process.
