This week we will be reviewing
the information from each background sheet.
We are doing this by making flash cards. For each background sheet, you will make flashcards for all the important facts. We are doing this IN CLASS! Hooray!
Each evening, you need to:
1. Make sure you finished the flashcards we did at school for the assigned background sheets.
2. Get someone to quiz you on the flashcards. Maybe mom or dad or a sibling?
You can also meet virtually with a friend and quiz each other.
Keep track of how you do. If you don't recall the answer, try this:
1. Mark the ones you missed.
2. Go over each of those and review the information. It is super helpful to say the information OUT LOUD. Even saying it loudly in a silly way like a chant or song will actually help your brain remember it.
Remember, our brains love things that are silly or funny.
The first section will be multiple choice. It covers "a little of this and a little of that." Hint: make sure you know, typical food, rocks used for arrowheads, what chiefs did, what they used for money, how they fished and hunted, and how baskets were used.
The next section is True or False. The tricky part of this is to remember that if PART of the statement is false, that means the entire statement is false. Hint: make sure you know what trails became highways, the main 2 types of baskets, what soaproot was used for, how to make acorn flour, and how they prepared themselves to hunt.
This section will have statements that have a blank you need to fill in. Choices will be listed in a box so you get to pick from there. Hint: It will mostly be the raw materials they found in nature and what they were used for. This includes materials such as tule, cinnabar, antlers, soaproot, and sinew.
You will be given a list of natural materials that the California Native Americans used. Your job is to write either hunting, fishing, building, or cooking next to each material. Your decision should be based on the most common/important way it was used. For example, feathers were used for decorating baskets and for adding to arrows. Which is more important? The arrows, right? So the right choice is hunting.
In order to practice, we will be making "soda machines" IN CLASS to organize our thoughts . (You should remember doing this before.) The "soda machines" make it much easier to remember the details you want to include in your answer.
You should review your soda machines with someone. Remember, you won't need to write out the entire answer. The important thing is to remember the main points you wrote on the soda machines.

You will have 4 short essays to write about. Make sure you are prepared to write about:
1. The 2 main types of baskets and how they were used.
2. How acorns were prepared for eating.
3. The importance of trading and the 2 main ways of trading.
4. The types of houses they built and what were the advantages of each type?
5. How the men prepared for the hunt and how they prepared to hunt.
6. Why the Acorn Harvest Festival was so important and how they celebrated.
