Students will continue to do all the writing on a Google doc.
They will also need to make sure to name the doc and share it correctly.
All the paragraphs will be written on a ONE Google doc. This makes it much easier to edit it. It also makes the writing easily accessible to the teacher and to parents.
Any kind of writing involves planning, writing, editing, and revising.
So, we will take it step by step. I will provide support and modeling each step of the way.
Multiple grades will be given for the introduction, supporting paragraphs, and the conclusion.
Throughout this process we will do most of the work in class. So no "official" homework will be listed on the Listening Post.
However, if anyone doesn't finish what is required to do each week, this will become what I call "leftovers." If this happens students will be required to catch up at home. Typically I will make notes on the Google doc to provide guidance.
The first step in the process is to research the 3 examples you will be writing about. You will decide partners and choose 3 examples about civil rights.
Students are choosing from examples of unfair treatment of minorities in schools, traveling, riding buses, eating in restaurants, major league sports etc.
We will then write our introduction, 3 supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion.
I have posted my models for the entire essay below for you to access as support.
IMPORTANT
Information essays require research. Unlike an opinion essay, you have to find out FACTS about your topic. So, as you plan your paragraphs, you will need to Google for information.
Then, you will need to fill out a planner for all 5 of your paragraphs. These are basically "jot dots" that help you remember the facts you want to write about.
