This week we will study the information from each background sheet.
In class we will be working with partners.
A study sheet will be given out to everyone that asks important questions from each background sheet.
Together, students will find the answers.
Then, when they are done, they will use the sheet to quiz each other.
In the evening this study sheet should be reviewed.
Also, there will be some short essay type questions on the test.
(Known as SMAART answers.)
In class we will do what we have done for all our other tests this year.
The questions will be listed on the Study Guide.
For each question, we will make the "soda machines" that will help us remember the information. This is a strategy that helps our brains remember the information using key words and phrases.
Each evening, you need will need to get a parent signature to verify you studied.
The first section is True or False. The tricky part of this is to remember that if PART of the statement is false, that means the entire statement is false. Hint: make sure you know about trail guides and wagonmasters, cholera, and information about wagons (what was packed in a wagon, how much could it carry) and problems they encountered on the trail.
The next section will be multiple choice. It covers "a little of this and a little of that." Hint: make sure you know details about the important landmarks, diseases, food and drink on the trail, details about the Donner Party, and details about the Native Americans.
This section will have statements that have a blank you need to fill in. Choices will be listed in a box so you get to pick from there. Hint: It will mostly be places, names of landmarks, numbers, and a few object.
It's time to pack the wagon! What are some of the most important things you would pack in your wagon? What are some things you would LIKE to take, but they aren't NECESSARY? The not important things would be what you would throw off your wagon if you needed to lighten the load. For example, you would like a pillow but it is not necessary.
You will be given 16 items and you will need to choose the 10 most important items.
You remember learning about SMAART answers, right?
Well...it's not just important for California Missions. It is an important skill for writing good short answers. And, remember, the most common mistake is just rushing and forgetting the "T." Remember, rushing is not your friend!
In order to practice, we will be making "soda machines" together to organize our thoughts. The "soda machines" make it much easier to remember the details you want to include in your answer.
Make sure you are prepared to answer the following questions:
