STUDENTS TAKE THE BLUE FOLDER HOME EVERY DAY
GRADED PAPERS AND ASSIGNMENTS GO HOME
IN THE BLUE FOLDER
You should see student work on the FOR HOME side.
IF it is graded, please remove it. It should not come back to school.
I do not send home student work in the Lincoln MESH folder.
If it is NOT graded, please leave it in the Blue Folder.
This means that it is not finished, or it hasn't been turned in to me yet.
This typically happens for math. I give students time to do the math homework in class every day. But I want them to take it home in the Blue Folder daily. This becomes a habit so it is at home in case once in awhile it still needs to get finished. It also gives parents the opportunity to check it and provide support as needed.
Please switch the math to the FOR SCHOOL side and return it to school.
SOMETIMES I REQUEST A PARENT SIGNATURE
Most graded papers go home and you should remove them from the Blue Folder. Nothing else needs to be done.
IF THE GRADE IS A 1, I WILL ASK FOR A SIGNATURE.
The purpose of asking for a signature is 100% about making sure you are aware that a student struggled on that assignment. It is not punitive.
If once in awhile a grade of 1 goes home, it is not necessarily a cause for concern. Sometimes it can be the student had a off day. Or he/she rushed through the assignment. Or he/she did not follow the directions I gave the class.
However, if you see a trend, it most likely shows that the student is struggling with a subject or a concept.
If this happens, please take action as it may lead to getting a 1 or 2 on the report card.
Please feel free to email me with your concerns. We can also choose to meet to discuss ways to provide help and support.
DURING ELEMENTARY GRADES ARE RUBRIC BASED, NOT STANDARD GRADES
GRADE OF 3:
This means that a student is able to complete assignments mostly independently. They probably only need a little help. It indicates that they understand the concept.
GRADE OF 2:
This means that a student needs much more support to complete the assignment. They are showing that the subject or concept is a bit of a struggle to understand.
GRADE OF 1:
This means a student needs a LOT of support to complete the assignment. They are clearly struggling and/or do not understand the concept.
SOMETIMES MORE FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED
The rubric is a good indication of how well a student is performing.
Sometimes it helps to get a little more feedback.
For example, the range for a 3 is very wide. A student can get a 3 if they have a 100%.
They can also get a 3 if they have an 82%. Which means they are very close to a grade of 2.
So to help you understand where the accuracy of the grade fell on the spectrum, I will write grades like this:
3++ = 100%
3+ = 99% to 90%
3 = 89% to 83%
3- = 82% to 80%
2+ = 79% tp 78%
2 = 77% to 73%
2- = 72% to 70%
1 = 69% or lower
